what home means for me

A home means different things for different people but for me it means love, a safe space, and peace. Home is not just four walls and a door, it is the people and memories inside it. I feel I can be myself and not be judged. After school I unwind in my bedroom by listening to music, organizing my room, and dancing freely. When I enter my home I feel a warm breeze through my body. It makes me feel cared for and loved. Home is all the memories we make and all the celebrations, even small moments like Sunday dinner. We gather at my grandparents with all my aunts, uncles, and cousins. We usually have sunday gravy, tomato salad, BBQ ribs, and buttery mash potatoes. We play games like Rumikud, Scopa, and listen to funny stories about my uncles when they were growing up. Home is the smell of my mother cooking chicken soup and baking my favorite milk chocolate chewy cookies. Home is where we spend time together, talk about our days, laugh, and help each other when things are hard. Being with my family makes me feel calm and happy. I’m grateful for a warm home, with a loving family, and feeling accepted for who I am. To me home means love, a safe space, and peace. No matter where I go home will be where my family is.
