Habitat Homes

Habitat for Humanity is a group of volunteers that help make homes for people who need them. Habitat for Humanity builds their homes in Grey and Bruce counties. Homes are being built so families can live in a house that they can afford. This also helps families have a safer and happier life. There are lots of Habitat for Humanity homes in our area. If we did not have volunteers like the ones that build homes, this program would not exist. There would be so many families who aren't living in safe homes or living a happy life, so this is why we need people to help. At Bruce Power, some work groups volunteer to help build homes for Habitat for Humanity. They are taught how to lay brick and use power tools to build walls and lay flooring. Volunteers do not get paid. Sometimes they pay money to Habitat for Humanity so they can buy the things they need to make a home. You can volunteer right now! Or you could donate $10 or more to help build a home. Someone I know has a home built by Habitat for Humanity. It is in Hanover. It meant a lot to this family that their community was willing to help. It is proven to be that by just having a home, kids do better in school. Volunteering for Habitat for Humanity can give you new skills and happiness knowing you have helped others, and it can reduce stress. So, get out there and volunteer if you can.
