The Essence of Home

Home is more than just a place. A home doesn’t have any rules for what it looks like, because the most important thing about home is the feeling it creates. The feeling of comfort and belonging. That feeling can come from propping your feet up and eating dry cereal out of the box, or it can come from running down marbled stairways in shimmering dresses. The feeling of home depends on you, your heart. It can start as the laughs bouncing off the walls, or as the soft singing from the radio on a Sunday morning, but it always ends up humming in your heart. Deep within you. Some may describe this feeling as quiet, and others may describe it as fun and spontaneous. I, personally, think of the feeling of Home as a warm blanket of laughs, and my mother’s humming that always gives off a sense of familiarity. It’s like a warm, enveloping hug that makes you know that this is where you belong. A home is anywhere that you feel welcomed and loved. Whether that be a suburban home with a white picket fence, or the cozy nook in the back of a bright yellow school bus, where you can rest your head, and listen to the laughs of children, or even the park down the road from your elementary school, where the hot sun and peeling paint on the monkey bars always makes you feel comforted and like you truly belong even if it burns your hands from the heat. In the end, a home can be anything. The one rule for a home is the feeling it creates for you. The feeling of calm during a storm.
