Meaning of Home

Have you ever thought about how your home is not just a structure? To me, home is the people around me that make me feel like I belong. I feel like I belong in my home because of the people and the supportive community. Firstly, home means making everyone feel like they belong. People in my community make me feel like I belong when we have community barbecues or when we have fires outside and watch movies together. My community makes me feel like I belong when we have dinner together in the summer and all of the kids and adults hang out together. Everyone tries equally as hard to try and make everyone feel welcome. If someone is sick we try to make them feel better with food and communication. If someone gets hurt we try to make them feel better by sending texts or calling them. When I broke my wrist my neighbors came and hung out with me and made sure I was ok. Secondly, home is the people in it. The people in my home are what make my home feel like my home by having family movie nights or helping me with homework when they are able to. They also take my sister and I to our activities at night. Both my parents work full time jobs so when they get home they make sure to hang out with my sister and I as much as they can. People in my home always try to make everyone feel included. For example, if someone is having a bad day my parents try to make them feel better by including them in games or activities or in whatever they're doing. Finally, home feels like home when I'm with my community. My community makes my home feel like home when we have fires at night in the summer or when we swim in my backyard. My community makes my home feel like home when we watch movies with each other or when we babysit each other's pets when we go on vacations. People in my community always try to make our bond as a community stronger and better than before. In conclusion, home is not four walls, home is a feeling. A home is not a building, it is a safe space, whether it's the people you live with or the people in your community. Everyone deserves a safe space to call home.
