What home really is to me
Home isn't just a place on a map. To me it's a place where I feel safe and welcome and where I can breathe to my own rhythm. When I think about home, I don't picture the whole house at once. I picture the rooms. The places where life actually happens. Each room has its own feeling. It’s own memories and its own connection to the people I care about. All those puzzle pieces come together and form what I call home.
The living room is what comes to mind first. It's usually where everyone ends up even when we start in different places. The living room is where we watch the funniest TV shows as we laugh our hearts out we're munching on the most delicious nachos that are crunchy yet full of flavor. It's not fancy but it's what makes it real. We've had movie nights, random conversations, and quiet evenings.I even have old photos on the wall that we could always laugh at.
The kitchen is another place I love because it's the heart of home. It's a place where food comfort and connection all come together. Cooking let's meet experiment with flavors and express myself through the dishes I make. The kitchen is where I share my love for cooking alongside my family as we bake the most delicious chocolate chip cookies. The gooey texture melting in our mouths.
The dining room awaits us with a platter of mouth watering dishes that we demolished within seconds as we chat about memories we had together in this home. It's a place where everyone comes together and shares delicious meal. It's a space that feels calm welcoming like a pause in the middle of a busy day. The dining room is important in my home because it creates connection. it's her birthdays are celebrated, where guests feel welcome and where family traditions grow.
The backyard is a place where I can go to step outside and instantly feel calm. It's a space where I can step outside and instantly feel calm. It's a space filled with fresh air, open sky and the freedom to play or relax.I have loads of family gathering where kids can run on the greenest grass while adults can barbecue and talk about work and other adult topics. Without a backyard my house wouldn't feel as lively, as open and inviting as it does today.
I love the hallway because it connects every part of my home. The hallway is where we pass each other, sometimes rushing, sometimes stopping to talk for a minute. The photos on the wall have different ages, different hairstyles, different stages of life.
My bedroom is the room that feels more personal. It's where I go to calm down, or think, or just be alone for a bit. The walls have seen me at my best and worst. It's where I've stayed up too late doing homework, where I've cried after a rough day, where I'm celebrated many victories no one else knew about. My room isn't perfect. Sometimes messy, other times too quiet, but it's it's the one place where I can be myself.
I am grateful to Habitat for Humanity for helping others and I hope soon everyone can have a home just like mine . Seeing families finally get a safe place to call home, something so many people take for granted reminds you how powerful teamwork and kindness could be. They show how a group of people with good intentions can change someone's entire life. When I put all these rooms together. I realize home isn't just a place or a feeling. It's the memories, the routines, the conversation, the quiet moments and the loud ones like having dance parties , that really make my home feel safe and welcoming to everyone. In conclusion that is what I call my home.
