The Meaning of Home

It's a  four letter word in the dictionary that means:  a house, apartment, or other shelter  that is the usual residence of a person, family, or household. But, to me the word home means a lot more. It’s the place where I go to, it is my safe place, surrounded by the people, things I love. It gives the feeling of being happy and full on the inside and feeling I am secure enough to enter the big world on the outside. Home is where me, my mom, my dad and my dog live. My mom is lucky as she works from home making me feel more secure everyday. She is always there before I go to school and when I return home. My dog Benji greets me full of kisses every time I walk in the door. My dad has a super cool job, He gets to build “HOMES”  for other people, I get to watch it start from digging a hole to shutting the door when the HOME is finished.   My grandparents’ homes are in Alberta, and other provinces, but when I travel to their homes I feel like I’m in my own home. I experience the kind of home that  mom and dad grew up into, I get to see how their home life is different but similar. Home is where we learn family values, traits, and cultures.  Home is the place where we are every day, surrounded by people we love, sharing love and laughter, hardships as well as adventures.  A house is where you live but a home is a feeling of being safe, loved, and accepted, with people who understand you the most.  A home is where we grow from a baby to a teenager, to an adult, then later in life you go out and create a home for your family.
