The World's Gift To Me, HOME!

Home. I used to think that home was just a roof over your head, food on the table and a place to sleep. But over the years, I started to realize home was much more than that. Home is your community, your entire life. It’s where you could come back from work or school and know all of your worries are gone. Like, POOF! Disappeared! That feeling of stepping through your front door. It just makes your body feel more peaceful and calm. It’s when I can take off the shackles of hiding who I truly am. Home is where I can truly be myself without restraint of who I am. Home is where I can come back from school and open that front door to smell my mom’s Indian cooking. On evening nights, it’s where I can look from the stairs and see everyone eating delicious food. It’s where I join in at the dinner table and tell funny jokes that make my family crack up and laugh. It’s where on winter nights, I can cuddle up on the couch and sip hot milk knowing my stress and uncertainness is gone. Home isn’t always a building. Home is the quiet place your heart returns to when the world feels too loud for you. Home is when I get hurt and come to mom’s hugs that make even the biggest scar or fear go away. It is the safest place I know, not because of the walls and doors, but because of the people inside it. Home isn’t just where I live, it’s where my heart is safe, seen, and loved. I am glad that Habitats for Humanity is doing the best they can. That is the world's gift for me, a home.
