What Is Home?

What does home mean to me? I used to think it was just a house. Just walls. Just a roof. Just a place to sleep at night. But home is where my life began. It’s the place that watched me grow, from who I was to who I am still becoming. Home is where my family gathers. Where holidays feel warmer. Where traditions are passed without anyone even noticing. It’s where we sit together, watch movies, play games, laugh too loud, and talk about our days. Home is where my brother and I played and learned. It is where we made mistakes, shared laughs, and grew closer over time. At home, I can be myself without feeling judged. In the kitchen, home feels alive. My mom’s traditional food fills the air with comfort. My brother and I bake cakes, cookies, and muffins, leaving behind messes and memories. I used to think home was just a building. But now I know it’s much more than that. Home is love, safety, and belonging. Everyone deserves a place like that. Thank you, Habitat for Humanity, for helping me understand why home matters so much. You help build more than houses— you help build places where love can grow.
