What Home Means to Me
When I get asked, what does home mean to you? I didn’t really have an answer. My answer used to be a building where I go home every day or whatever the dictionary says. But after I learnt at school what home and house is and how lucky I am to have a place to call home, I have a new answer. Home is where my family is, where I feel safe, where my stuff is, and where my memories are. I can’t remember moving to the place I call home because I was only two months old. I can’t remember all my earliest memories like moving, but I can remember newer memories. I can remember my basement flooded a couple years ago with sewer water. I remember renovating my basement. I remember we took out our fireplace and discovered a tiny secret room. The room wasn’t filled with diamonds, jewels, gold or pirate treasure, but the room is now filled with memories. I remember drawing on a plank of wood with my sister. You can’t see our drawings now because it’s inside of something that holds up our basement, but I can look at it covered up and remember drawing with my sister and renovating the basement. I also took pictures of the plank of wood so I can remember the memories of drawing on the plank of wood with my sister better. I remember the first day my kitten was at home. She didn’t get along with our older cat at first but now they are great friends. I remember the first time my husky came home with her foster. She was scared and happy. Now my husky is brave and still happy. Thank you for giving families a place to call home.
