What Home means to me

Home is not just a house with walls, doors and windows. To me, home is a powerful feeling of belonging that follows me wherever life takes me. It is the place or sometimes people that makes me feel safe, comfortable and supported. When I think of home I think of comfort found in ordinary moments. It is the quiet after a long day, when everything feels calm and peaceful. It’s the familiar voices, shared routine and laughter that do not need a reason. At home I’m not pressured to impress anyone. At home I’m allowed to grow, change and make mistakes without fearing judgment. To me, home is built from memories. Some memories can be warm and fuzzy, like chatting with my friends or enjoying lunch with my family. Others can be filled with arguments and tears. Either way, every memory matters, no matter if it's a happy one or a not so enjoyable one. Because of this I think memory is what shapes a home. I have learned that home does not have to stay in one place. Home can be anywhere. It can exist in a room, a song, a conversation, or a person who licenses to me without judgment. Wherever I feel accepted, supported, loved and cared for, that place becomes home to me. To me, my mom is my home. Wherever she is, I want to be! She encourages me during my lowest moments and celebrates my achievements, even small ones. This is why where my mom is, is where I consider my home! When the outside world feels overwhelming, my room becomes my shelter. It offers me comfort, peace and confidence. To me, home is a place that I feel I belong in. Home is a place where I feel safe and can enjoy myself.
