What Home Means to Me

WHAT HOME MEANS TO ME To me, home isn’t just a place where I come, dump my school things, and leave. To me, home is like a big, warm fuzzy hug. To me, home is like everything I’ve ever known. The first thing that I notice when I walk home is that ‘our house’ smell. Sometimes it’s a snack, sometimes it’s dinner. But mostly it’s just the smell of our home. No one else would understand that. But that smell always just lets me relax, no matter how happy, stressed or nervous I am! The most favorite part of my home is super obviously my room. It’s so messy, but it’s my mess, so it still feels comfy! The posters and little fairy lights transport me to my own world. Home is also where I can be myself. If I’m annoyed or sad, nobody tells me to “just get over it.” I can sit in my room or wrap myself in a blanket burrito until I feel better. And when I’m happy, I can be as loud as I want—laughing, joking around, or singing badly (which everyone has to deal with). The ABSOLUTE best part about my home is my family. It’s hearing the voices from living room and hearing the laughter from the kitchen. It just makes me feel good that someone’s around. So yeah, home is the place where I can relax, unwind, and just be myself. -Maryam Mustafa, gr.6
