A Home Isn’t Just A House
A home isn’t just a house… by Sophie Ip-Jansen
A house is a building with a roof and walls, with rooms and more rooms on different floors. But a home is much more. A home is an entry to a place protected. Warmth and calmness through every door, laughter runs across the house spreading with joy, to greet family members coming from afar. A house can have a beautiful backyard, with high trees growing tall, but a home's backyard will always feel recognized, safe and familiar.
A house can be bigger than yours, but may still feel not very welcome; a home will always be more comforting. A home is where I feel free to be myself. I'm not too shy to do things I usually don’t do in other people’s houses. A home is a house of memories planted up different stairs, to different stories. A home is where you belong. A house may have a fancy design but a home has love which you can’t buy. A house can feel welcome at times, but a home will always be a bit more. Home is a place for me to come home and see my dog wag his tail scratching at the door to come see me.
A home is a need. Thank you firefighters in Los Angeles for saving many homes, and lives. I hope LA recovers quickly from all the fires.
