What Home Means to Me

What does home mean to me? A home has more than a few walls. It's a place where happiness is created and laughter is shared. It's a place that brings us up when we’re down, it gives us shelter and warmth. A home is more than a house. A home is a place where I feel happy. My home has a yard with swings in the front, swaying slowly in the wind. I make memories with my sister, seeing who can go highest. My home has a forest surrounding it, making us feel safe. It’s home to a treehouse that my dad loves to work on through the seasons. We searched to find the perfect place for it. My home has a fallen tree, eaten by ants and blown down by wind. My yard has an old house, a house owned by animals now, and an old cellar falling apart with many entrances. My home has an old, falling down barn, which nobody dares to go in. I wonder who lived there before it got too old. A home is not a house, a home is a place where we feel safe. My home has a living room. As you walk into the door, the sun shines through the windows in the morning. My home has a kitchen, where memories are made. We make meals together and I feel happy helping my mom with dishes. My home is my sister’s and my bedroom, with a bunk bed that has been moved around over the years, a closet where we hide, whilst playing hide and seek. My family and I feel safe in our home, and for that reason, I believe a home is different from a house. Everyone deserves a home to sleep in and to be happy in.
