The True Meaning of a "Home"

When someone says "think of home”, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Many people may visualize a mansion with a great backyard, a glistening pool, a staircase with thousands of steps, and countless large spacious rooms. Nevertheless, the true meaning of “home” can mean many different things to many different people. To me, it's jumping into my parent’s warm welcoming bed on a cold chilly night. It’s the sound of bright contagious laughter that fills the air during late night talks with my family. It’s also the scent of nostalgia that comes from my mom’s mouth-watering flavourful dishes that awakens me into the present. Even though a house provides us shelter and a place to stay warm, a home is more so the people who offer affection and support whenever needed. It could be trying out a new sport or even helping my mom cook an exquisite meal to enjoy with the family. Home is like an ever changing memory book. However, instead of looking at pictures, it's us and our family creating every illustration. Little do we know we are the story that takes the pages. Within these walls are engraved memories that I carry deeply in my heart. As we live our ever evolving lives, we realize we are living in a book filling every page uncertain what lies ahead. Lastly, home is where you lean on for encouragement or advice when you feel down or low. It’s a spot where we are reminded of the genuine feeling of being important to someone. While a lavishly designed house can be beautiful it can never come close to affection, relationships, and memories that come from a “home”.
