Home vs. House

The meaning of home for me means that it has a treasured place in your heart. Home is a place like no other place, it has immense meaning to you. For me the way I recognize my home is by the five senses. I see my dad giving my dogs treats, and my mom making tea for herself and me. For smell, I smell the strong whiff of spaghetti sauce. For touch, I touch the smooth counter top that makes everything seem silky after. For taste, I taste my dad’s appetizing spaghetti. Lastly, what I hear when I am at home I usually hear dogs barking slowly echoing because they realized there are no dogs outside anymore. My home makes me feel very secure, because I’ve known my home for so long, I feel like it is like a boulder, protecting me every step of the way. Sometimes it makes me sad when I see people without any home because they don’t have the feeling of being sheltered during scary times. Having a home is different from having a house, a home is a place where you can belong, be yourself, and have others who appreciate your company. A loving family, loving friends, love can fill in those holes without love. You don’t need someone to say “I love you” to know that you are loved. You can express your love with actions such as, cleaning your room without your parents telling you. A small act of kindness can make your friends, your family feel so joyful. As you grow up, you should still continue to do that. A home is a place where you feel comfortable and safe. This is my home and how I feel about it, this is what home means to me.
