What Home Means to Me

Home for me is waking up to the small chai with all spices filling the house on Saturday morning smelling aloo paratha (potato roti). The feeling of home is strongly rooted in our Punjabi culture. My parents and grandparents are originally from Punjab, so incorporating that culture into our daily lives makes the feeling even stronger. Home is also a place where you grow up and learn your morals and figure out who you are as a person. A home is built upon a core foundation, which is the people in your family. For me, it includes my grandparents, parents, and my older sister, and this foundation provides me comfort, and it also provides a safety knowing I can fall back anytime and people who love me will catch me. Meaning I can always lean on my family for support, advice and just a warm hug to help me. My home is filled with love and peace. It's not a place, it is a feeling. My home feels like happiness and am so grateful to have a home that provides me food and clean water. Home is a place where you can all gather and watch movies and buttery popcorn. Home is a place where you celebrate holidays like birthdays or a traditional holiday called Diwali. Home is a place where you can always return.
