The Meaning of Home...

Since the beginning, it has always been there, always watching us and welcoming us home on cold winter days. The smell of the smoke, the taste of the toasty hot sweet potatoes that dad makes on frosty winter evenings. Going to sleep, comfy under my duvet and listening to the soft tap coming through the vents that are releasing warm, comfortable air into my room. That is home to me. Our wood furnace is what is home to me. It was the first thing that everyone was so excited about when we first moved into our home. I remember one particularly cold night when my mum asked me if I wanted my dad to put some wood in the furnace so that we could go and read on the couch downstairs. Even in the summer, the first time we brought our puppy Sunny home, the first place we took her was down to the basement to our furnace room where she met our cats. Whenever we have family or friends over, everybody loves sleeping in the basement because that's where it is the warmest. In my heart, that is one of the things that is warmest in my home because although many other people may have this in their house, ours carries so many memories and that's what I think has turned our house into a home.
