Home to Me

For me home is a safe place where you can say and do what you want. You should feel comfortable and happy. Home is more than just a house, it’s about the people in it. Home is the place where you and your family can be free of stress and anger. It is a place where everything outside the house can be forgotten, to let go and to just relax. Home is a place filled with all sorts of sounds. The sounds of laughter and chatter filling the air. The sound of a dog barking loud and clear. The sound of my siblings arguing in the other room. The low scratch of pages turning. The trains roaring at night as they slowly make their way across the tracks. Home is the sight of a brown and white dog racing towards me. Home is the bright colors my siblings dye their hair. Home is my little sister's loving smile. Home is my sibling raising their eyebrow at me. Home is a dog’s wiry fur. Home is my mother’s soft hands. Home is the feeling of the coarse pages turning beneath my fingers. Home is my warm blankets waiting in my bed. Home is the sweet taste of an apple crunching between my teeth. Home is the sour candy I love to snack on. Home is the taste of blueberry muffins, fresh from the oven.Home is like sweet chocolate melting on my tongue. Home is the smell of barbeque floating through the air. Home is the smell of old books waiting for me.. Home is the smell of wet dog fur. Home is the sugary aroma of cookies in the oven. Home is everything.
