What Home Means to Me

Home is like a chicken salad. Love is the chicken. Without love, home is just a house. Without chicken, it is just a salad. Family is like the lettuce. Every good salad has lettuce. Even if you live alone, you still have family at home. Pets are like the salad sauce. Some people have pets, and some do not. Some people like salad dressing and some do not. The warmth, relaxing, comforting, safe vibe is like the other vegetables that you put on a salad. A home is not a home if you do not have that vibe. Just like a bowl of chicken and lettuce is not what most people consider a salad. Some people have homes without that vibe or family. That is where Habitat for Humanity comes in. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that helps people get affordable housing. Their yearly contest, Meaning of Home helps funds their projects. How you might ask. Children from grade 4 to 6 that participate in this completely free contest will write what home means to them. Each of their works gets submitted and each submission gets Habitat for Humanity 10 dollars form their sponsors. The submissions will be judged and the winners of each grade gets to donate $30,000 to their locale Habitat for Humanity. The winners also get an iPad and a pizza party for their class. The runner ups can donate $10,000 to their Habitat for Humanity. They also get a tablet and a pizza party for their class. Just by going to their website, entering the contest and typing “Hi this is for ten dollars to Habitat for Humanity” you are helping someone. Doesn’t that feel great?
