Home on the Lake
Home feels relaxing. The yellow walls at dad’s are cheerful. The huge yard is like a playground. Down at nan’s, we can get on a trail which takes us to the water. Houses and cottages are lined up and it feels safe. These are my people. Family. We jump off the dock and touch the bottom. We catch minnows in awesome nets and if we’re lucky, chub too. Tons of them hide out under the wharf. I can scoop so many. Tag and hide-and-seek are fun in the dark. The dirt road brings us together. When I walk to where I must swim, I break my feet because of the rocks and pebbles. Home on the lake is peaceful but painful.
