How Home Holds Me Together

“Nothing great is ever achieved without enthusiasm.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson Making people feel at home is one of the most important things to do in this world. What is the meaning of home? To me, home is made with glue. A glue made with Family, Music, and Community. It's what holds home together. The first ingredient of the glue is family. Family is the sticky part. When you’re with your family, you feel comfortable, and warm. Family doesn’t hate you because you did something wrong, or because of the music you like, family loves you no matter what. Home is also having my dad make his pasta, and my brother and I fighting over who gets the biggest bowl. Now onto the second ingredient: Music. For me, music plays a big part in making a home. When you’re learning to play an instrument from your parents, they want to help if you’re willing to practice. My dad is always giving me tips on how to improve. When I play my drums, I imagine a crowd cheering me on as I play, it really helps me out when I am practicing to fulfill my dreams. Community is the final ingredient of the glue. Home isn’t a home without help from a community. In a community, if you or someone else needs help you give it to them. Being kind can make others feel at home. In my community, I know that my grandpa is always there to help me when I am bored. Sometimes life is hard. Without the glue that makes home, life would be very difficult. For me, without family, music, and community, I don’t know if I would be able to survive. “Only the strong survive.” -My Dad
