The Meaning of Home

A House is a structure with four walls and a roof but a Home is a place where you feel safe, judgement free. Home isn’t about décor or furniture, It’s about memories, warmth, and family. Nothing else can replace the feeling of a hug when I'm feeling sad, it's like a wave of warmth on my chest and a huge weight lifted off my shoulders, warmth is one of the most important things about a Home. Warmth can be physical like the heater in a home but it can also be mental like when someone comforts you when you're sad. In my home there is a familiar-ness to it, everywhere I look there is a memory. In my house when I look at this pillow we have that is shaped like the earth, I remember how my dad used to read to us and use that pillow as a head rest. There can be memories anywhere, even in the simplest of things. Memories can be sparked when you see a person, an object or you when you feel a certain way. Family is so important to a home, you can live alone but you will never feel the same way as if you were sharing a home. We can get in arguments, have small fights but truly there is nothing better than having someone there for you. Someone to comfort you. Family is the base of the entire idea of home, there is not a whole lot of warmth or memories without family. Family are people you can laugh with and make jokes with, people you can express your emotions with. They are the true base of a home. These three elements are the things you need to make a Home, not a house.
