Home
“Everybody ready?” called Mrs. de Vries.
"We're coming," said Nellie. “You’re going to love my old house!” Nellie shrieked.
“I know we will,” Bianka and Melanie, Nellie’s new friends, agreed.
They were going to visit Nellie's old house so that her new friends could see it too. When they finally arrived, it was dark, and everyone was exhausted. Nellie was wide awake again when she saw her old house.
“Look at it!” she cried. But she did not feel the urge to run to it like she thought she would.
“Can we go inside?” asked Bianka.
“I think someone lives there already,” Mrs. de Vries said, and just as she said that, someone came out.
“Oh, my first visitors! Call me Richy or Pretty House Guy! Is my house not beautiful? I am so rich! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,” he said selfishly.
“Oh my! How rude!” Nellie yelled, and she ran to a tree away from the property.
"Nellie! Wait!” called Melanie and ran after her.
"Nellie, are you ok? That guy is so mean,” exclaimed Bianka.
“No, it's not the guy. It's me! I was like that. I was a show off like that,” Nellie said through tears.
“It's ok, we still love you, Nellie,” said Melanie. Think about all the fun things we did and all the things that we are going to do!”
Nellie paused and shared, “Now I finally understand. It is not about how a house looks; a home is about the people you are with, and the things you do with them! I don't care that guy took my house, but I am so happy that no one can ever take away my home! You pay a lot for a house, but something even more that you can't pay for, it's a home!
