What Home Really Means

Home is not merely four walls, but an important meaningful haven that provides safety, comfort, and the opportunity to unwind from the chaos and constant stimulation from the world outside. My home is where my heart belongs and where every item holds a perfect memory. Our couches hold the memory when we went window-shopping for hours, looking until we found the perfect one. Our TV has memories of us watching movies, eating popcorn, my brothers and I laughing at hilarious videos, and my whole family dancing to loud music. Our living room is the base which gives the perfect, cozy feeling when I’m stressed. When leaving for vacations, excitement is there but doesn’t last more than a few days. I miss the delicious home-cooked breakfast made by my mom. I miss my cozy bed, warmth in my home, and in the end I want to run right back! Despite the fancy hotel beds, there is no place like my bunkbed where my brother and I laugh and talk at night. For many people, home is not something they can count on because homelessness is a real ongoing issue. I sometimes don’t realize how much I take my home for granted. Homelessness is more than just lacking shelter, it is the absence of food, safety, and belonging. Now looking back, I see that home is a lot more than just four walls, it is the roots of who we are. It is where memories are made like when we take our very first steps and where we are loved by our family. My home is a treasure that is priceless to me and nothing in the world can be compared to it. Every day is new, waiting for great stories and memories to be made.
