What Home is to Me
Home isn't just a physical object. Home is so much more than that. Home isn’t just the soft carpet in your living area, it isn’t just the furniture sitting on top of your kitchen table. Your home is your happy place, a place where you can be yourself ( for most people ). Everyone has a different version of what their home is like to them and this is what home is like to me…
Home is like a cloud when I'm calm. The soft cushions on my couch engulf me in a soft hug almost like I'm drifting away in the sky. The blankets wrap around me like a warm gust of wind on a cold winter's day. When I flip through the pages of my book it reminds me of the sun as it basks down on my back in a lush meadow full of bright flowers as they bloom one by one.
Home is like a cave made of shiny grey stone when I'm sad. Sometimes I like to curl up on my hardwood floor which is like the rocks underneath the cave. It's cold to the touch but it gives you a bit of joy just by feeling it. When I'm sad tears fall from my eyes like the way the water drips from the top of the cave and the sound of the droplets hitting the ground echoes around you.
Home when I'm happy is like a party. When I'm happy I like to sing in my room just like karaoke on a big stage. When I'm happy I like playing tag with my little brother just like when we run around the dance floor with flashing lights. When you go to a party it’s never really about the food or decorations ( even though that is a very fun part about it ) a party is about spending time with the people you care about which is the most important part of home to me.
Home is where the people I love live. It’s where I get warm hugs from my family members before heading off to school. It’s where I hear laughter when we play Uno on the dining table, and my home is where I read a book near the window sill while I sit on my black leather couch with a puffy blue pillow behind me.
I am lucky I have a home. Some people don’t own a home and I feel bad for what they have to go through. Me and my family are very privileged and honoured that we have a warm place to stay with a roof over our heads and a comfortable carpet under our feet. I am so grateful for the home I have and I'm happy that there are many reliable sources to help people own a home and that brings us to the topic of Habitat for Humanity!
Habitat for Humanity doesn’t just help you find a home it helps you find so much more! It helps you find a safe place to live. After reading what home feels like to me you probably understand that a home is special. A home is where people grow up and learn new things about themselves. Habitat for humanity gives people hope about their future so I want to give a big thank you to Habitat for Humanity for helping so many people find a home!
