The Feeling of Home

I wake up at home. But home is so much more than a building. For me, home is the morning dew glistening off the green leaves, the songbirds chirping gracefully in the crisp morning air, the waves gently crashing against the rocky shore. “Charlie! Pass the ball!” My brother, Robbie yells. Playing road hockey makes me feel at home. The wooden stick tapping the cold concrete ground. The brightly coloured road hockey ball whistling into the white netting. I can’t wait to play road hockey with my brother next. I also love riding my bike. It’s so fun to bump over the rocks and race over the gravel ground. “He shoots, he scores!” the commentators announce. Watching the TV screen flicker as the hockey game plays makes me feel great. My dad and brother watch with me as the players rush down the sleek white ice, the goalies making terrific saves, the puck hitting the back of the net, and the crowd exploding in cheers and screams. While I watch, I imagine being one of those players, rushing on the ice. “Wake up Charlie! It’s Christmas morning!” Robbie yells from the hallway outside my room. I get up, my eyelids pop open. Opening presents with my family is so fun. I love to close my eyes and just feel all the emotions. To smell the freshly baked cookies, see the green needles on the Christmas tree, it’s home. At Christmas dinner, my family gathers around the big oak table. My Family makes me feel at home. They make me feel comforted and happy. When it’s a holiday, the part I like the most is family visiting. It’s so fun to see their faces that you haven't seen for so long. To me, riding my bike, watching hockey, visiting with family, playing road hockey with Robbie, and being out in nature makes me feel the most wonderful feeling - the feeling of being home.
