Home Sweet Home ( A home for everyone!)
What is home?
If you ask a turtle ... it will say home is their strong dependable shell.
A safe, protective shelter from dangers such as extreme weather and viscous predators.
If you ask a crow... it will say it's love and belonging.
It's their flock, their family, their friends, their tight knit community that watches out for each other. They fly together, share food, babysit and take care of each other.
If you ask a beaver... It will say home is their own private space.
The various scents of vanilla smelling castoreum wafting through the dam. Each comforting scent representing a different family member marking their own private spot.
If you ask a spider... it will say home is a place of tradition, history and culture handed down from generation to generation.
It will proudly show you it's intricate web, which is unique to each species. They are just as multicultural as we are.
If you ask a bower bird... it will say home is a place of self expression, a non judgmental place to be yourself.
It will show you his nest, a museum of vibrant blue, decorated with blue bottle caps, blue berries, blue petals and other sparkly blue treasure shimmering in the sun.
If you ask 1000 people where they live... they will most likely give you a variety of answers ( house, farm, apartment, igloo boat) .
But if you ask them what a home is... they will most likely all agree that home is where the heart is. A safe and welcoming place full of love, acceptance and fond memories. A comfortable familiar place to be yourself and call your own.
I truly believe everyone deserves a safe place to call home. Thank you Habitat for Humanity for the homes you help create.
