The Meaning of Home

Home means many things for different people. In this essay, I will tell you what home means to me. Home isn't what your house looks like; it's the aesthetic that emanates from it. Home doesn't have to imply the house that you live in; it could also suggest someone else’s house. No matter how big or small your house is, it can be your home. To call a house home the atmosphere must be calm with some crazy times. My siblings and parents would be there or I’d feel uncomfortable. I feel protected and loved when they are around. When I am home I feel welcome. Why? When I am home, I belong and feel cared for. I feel at home when I walk in and a yummy aroma of fresh baking fills the air. I feel safe when I am home. I was born in a different home, and when another family bought it, I still called it home because it holds many dear memories. My home is a non-judgemental place to be. Home is where your heart lives and beats. A home is a wonderful place filled with imagination, creativity and dreams. Just know that you can't be judged by what home means to you because home has different standards for everybody. Home is a place where you feel loved, and everyone deserves a home. A room is a place in a home where you feel you can be yourself and grow and thrive. A room is a place where you can let your imagination run free. Home isn’t just made of bricks, a roof and a door; home means something far greater than that. A home is built on a solid foundation of love, peace and kindness, while a house has a foundation made of stone-cold concrete. A home's insulation is made of family and friends to keep you warm, but the insulation of a house is just materials packed together. The skeleton of a home is built strongly of harmony and joy as well as some hard times everyone goes through, while the skeleton of a house is just plain old wood with no meaning but to keep the house intact. The attic of a home holds memories like ‘grandma’s old hat’ or ‘your old Barbie doll’ while the attic of a house has none of that. The dining room table has stains and paint splatters; each one holds a drop of imagination that you had while you were painting. Every room in your home has a different meaning to you and only you, as well as your home. Home can be big or small, tall or short, but it doesn't matter what home looks like, it matters what you feel about it inside.
