A Story of Home
Once upon a time a little girl named Lizzy was wandering around a forest. Lizzy was a very curious girl that always wanted to see what was beyond the great walls of her small town in Nerville. While Lizzy was wandering around, she noticed a small door right through the great walls. She looked at it closely and it looked big enough to fit her. She slowly opened the door and crept inside. The door shut behind her, she was regretting everything she just did until she reached the other side. She couldn’t believe it, she had crossed the walls and now was somewhere different. She wondered a little bit more until she got to what seemed like the town square. There was a giant gold statue with a man with what seemed like a house behind him and at the bottom it read “Home is a place like no other.” Lizzy looked at it confused, then she turned around and found a man standing behind a tent that said, “find your home today.” Lizzy walked towards the man and asked, “Hi excuse me, but what's a home?” The man looked at her startled “my dear, do you not know what a home is” the man answered her. “Sorry, but no, not really” she told him. “You see I am not from here.” Well, you don’t have to be” the man replied, “have you ever baked cookies with your mom or danced around on you fathers' toes or even laugh together about the silliest jokes?” the man asked with a smile. “No, not really.” The man laughed “oh, my dear, have you ever felt your house empty but filled with something you can’t describe?” Lizzy nodded. “Well, what you felt was love, your house is filled with it and that’s what a home is but remember this, home isn’t really just one place it is anywhere where you feel loved, happy or where you can be yourself, for example take your grandparents' house, you are not at your home but you still consider it as home because you feel loved. ” Lizzy didn’t know what he meant about the wise words, but she still had one more question to ask him. “How can I find a home” she asked? The man looked at her with a smile “you came to the right place” he told her. They spent the rest of the afternoon talking about how Lizzy could turn her house into a home and that’s when the man's wise words clicked. She realized that a house has walls and bricks, but home is where love and kindness are, a place where she could be the curious girl that she was. Then she remembered that place she saw once on a road trip “Habitat for Humanity” and how her dad told her that he volunteered there and had loved helping them make houses for people who couldn’t afford them. She now realized that they were trying to make a home for everyone, and she hoped they would continue. After all, she had now found her home and hoped that they could help others find theirs too.
