A Place to Call Home

A Place to Call Home There are a bazillion places that I want to travel to, explore, and experience, but I truly believe there is no place like home. To me, home is my most favourite place in the whole wide world. To me home sounds like my mom saying, “Hi sweetheart, how was your day?” when I walk in the door. It smells like freshly baked cookies from when my mom and I bake together, and it feels like a big hug from the moment I walk in the door to the moment I go out again. Home means playing board games by the fireplace with the whole family together nibbling on fun snacks. A home is a place to let out all the day's frustrations. It’s a place to cry into your pillow after a stressful day. A home doesn’t have to be big or fancy, in fact sometimes it’s the small and humble homes that hold the most love. Life is hard sometimes, even when you're a kid. Kids might not have the same worries as adults, but life can still be stressful. Something that comforts me on stressful days is knowing that I have a home, somewhere to come home to. Not to be cliche, but there truly is “no place like home.” A home is a place where you feel loved beyond explanation, a place where you can be yourself. If you're lucky you might have wonderful neighbours around your home - I know I do! They're amazing, always bringing us delicious baked goods and surprising my brother and me with little treats and gifts throughout the year. The best part about having great neighbours is knowing that if I ever needed help or was in trouble, I could count on them. Having such kind and thoughtful neighbours makes my home feel even more special. It breaks my heart to think not everyone has a home. I think especially for kids, but adults too, it's important to have a place to call home. I think Habitat for Humanity is a fantabulous organization. I love that it helps families who couldn't normally afford homes become homeowners. I have a safe and comfortable place that I call home, and I strongly believe that everyone should have one too.
