Home and a House
A house is something you see every day.
A house is made of walls and a roof.
But a home? A home is a cozy, comfortable place just for you and your family.
A home is filled with love and care—from you, your parents, your dog, cat, or even your hamster.
In a house, you might not always feel cozy.
My home, for example, is full of hockey, badminton, and, yes, cat hair!
When you have a home, you probably feel safe and warm.
But not everyone feels that way in a house.
In fact, some houses aren't even liveable—imagine calling a dumpster or an alleyway "home."
Think about it. What you do in a house might feel very different from what you do in a home.
Take your friend's house, for example. It might feel nice and cozy when you visit, but is it truly yours? NO!
Your home is special. Your home is yours.
Did you know people are starting to call homeless individuals "houseless"?
That’s because having a roof over your head doesn’t mean you have a place that feels like home.
It’s much better to have a home—a place where you feel safe and loved—than just a house.
Here’s another fact: 1 in 8 households don’t have a place they can call home.
That’s why we need to help.
If you donate, we can make a difference.
Together, we can help get houseless people off the streets and into homes.
Visit www.habitat.ca to learn more and make a donation.
And the next time your dad tells one of his terrible dad jokes, just smile and remember—you’re lucky to be in your cozy, comfy home.
