What Does Home Mean To Me

Home to me is when I get home after a long day of school. If home were a taste it would be my moms appetizing yet spicy Nigerian food, because it reminds of the taste of when I’m back home in Nigeria. If Home were a sound it would be wind chimes twinkling because of the wind, because it reminds me of the calm noise and music coming from my room. If home were a landscape it would be the most beautiful sunset with Purple, pink,orange ,yellow, and blue with palm trees in the background, because it reminds me of the time at the beach with my family making sandcastles, and swimming in the cold ocean, and smelling the ocean breeze. If home were a scent it would be the scent of all Mom’s spices and peppers mixed up together after coming home from school. If home were something you could touch it would be a fluffy yet heavy blanket and putting over my shoulders and laying on my bed to sleep. Home to me is being in my room while it's raining and it’s quiet and comfortable writing and drawing , because it calms me down. Home to me is when sleeping on the couch on a Friday night and my brother wakes me up and tells me to stop laying on the couch and to make some space for him. Home to me is getting up in the morning and smelling my brother making bacon, eggs and pancakes. Home to me is when I’m on the couch with my Mom watching cooking shows with her and trying out the recipes for ourselves. Home to me is when I’m doing my homework and my Mom is telling me to “go make me some Tea, because I’m cold.” My home is not just a place with four walls and just a place to hang out with people, it’s a place where I can be myself and I can talk Yoruba to my family. Home to me is a place which is built with memory’s not bricks. I love my home, and the memories that I have built and the family that's in it, and that’s what home means to me.
