The Meaning of Home
I am happiest when I am at Skyline Stables. When I am riding my horse, Sky, I feel happy and at peace with myself. You feel invincible when you are barrel racing like no one can catch up to you. The only thing I have to think about is getting bucked off the horse. It doesn’t matter if I am in a fight with my friends or had a hard day at school, my horse is still there for me.
Home means having a safe space where you can be yourself. At Skyline Stables all of my friends and family are there. My best friend Jemma also boards her horse there. We are able to go riding together, the best place to go is down the trails, but we don’t get to do that all the time. I feel safe knowing the doors are locked there so strangers can’t get in. The owner only lets people that she knows in so I don’t have to worry about what if’s when I am there. The safety features allow me to be a kid and enjoy my riding time. All of the people at Skyline are very nice and welcoming.
The trainers at Skyline make me feel like I am a good rider. They don’t get mad if I make a mistake but instead they help me through it. I am able to get my corrections in a positive way like a school where I am given a suggestion to improve. I don’t get upset if I make a mistake there because I know they are still going to help me. I am learning to make better friendship decisions, Skyline has shown me how to be a friend to others. I can’t wait for my next riding lesson. I am going to have a good experience with horseback riding.
