My Home
The brick walls surround me
They make me feel safe
Just like a bear in his gnarled cave
We ran around the yard
And on top of the shed roof
We played all day in the snow
Till mom says our friends must go
Muffins bake
Their scent drifts upstairs
It’s a race to the kitchen for those delicious blueberry creations
The Mailman knocks hard on the front door
My dog barks
He delivers some letters and some dog treats
Everyone knows us
The friendly loud Neighbours next-door
I hope it stays like this forevermore
Day after day in the big brick house
We sing
We dance
We trust
We love
We push and shove
I grew up here as a small child and now I will continue to grow
In these vast walls of my warm home
Spiders in every nook
Mice caught in traps
They make me want to runaway
I hear a squeak
I Squirm
To know that my house has many visitors
Dead
And
Wild
I snuggle near the crackling fire
Next to my dog
Who hogs the bed and every couch
In my busy home
I sneak up the stairs
To my escape
A place where I can get away for all this crazy
The dryer in the basement rumbles with hunger
I can hear it all the time
Even when I’m not there
The Driveway blocked with ice
I remember we would shovel for hours
The Kids all slide on the massive snowbanks
That guard our circus home
I know it’s not perfect
My busy crowded home
But this is the place where I made so many memories
And will continue to make more
Home is where the heart is
A million times or more!
