What Home Means to Me
What Home Means to Me
Home can mean many things. For some people it can mean comfort or laughter but for me it means safety, memories, and celebrations.
Without safety a home wouldn’t quite be a home. After hours of tossing and turning without getting a wink of sleep, something that gives me a sense of safety is petting my cat’s soft, silky fur until I drift off to sleep, knowing I am safe from the unforgiving weather outside. Or when my parents give me a hug lets me know that I am loved and safe inside of my home.
Throughout the day memories pop into my head. They fill me with joy whenever I think of them and never fail to put a smile on my face, and home is about happiness and joy which is what these memories bring.
Finally, the last thing that makes up home is traditions. Every year near Christmas me and my siblings make kolache (Ukrainian Christmas bread) and after we cook it we put charms into it and whatever charm you get shows what your new year will be like. I always look forward to doing this with my family and it’s something that always makes me happy. Another tradition my family does is make pavuky, which is a spider ornament made of beads.
Home is such a beautiful word that has so many meanings. I am so fortunate to have a house to call my own and make so many amazing memories there. I want other families to have a place of their own to call home and make memories that will bring them joy.
