The Meaning of Home

Hannah Jan 10,2022 The meaning of Home When I was three years old, we moved to a new house. We moved from a busy Taiwanese city to tiny Quadra Island. After a long turbulent plane ride, my family and I arrived at our new home. It had been empty for a while and it seemed lonely and rather dull. For weeks, the tiny house did not feel like a home. One day when my mom and I were taking a relaxing walk back to our house, we saw my dad’s black car pull up in our driveway. Since we had moved, he had been away working. When he arrived home that day, we started to unpack and decorate our house as a family. That was when our house finally felt like a home because we were together. You might think home is just walls and a roof, but it’s so much more than that. It is love, kindness, sadness, anger and understanding. The feelings and emotions you experience in your home leave us with priceless memories. Coming home when my parents have cooked a wonderful feast leaves me full of love. A person can feel at home at any age, as long as there is love. It doesn’t matter if you are big or small, tall, somewhere in the world, there is home for you. With the help from Habitat for Humanity, more families will find theirs.​​ ​
