Habitat Homes

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps people to own a house even if they can't afford. Habitat for Humanity started in 1987. When a group of citizens were concerned about the lack of affordable housing in Grey and Bruce counties heard about the work of Habitat for Humanity International, they decided to initiate a local Habitat chapter in Grey and Bruce. These dedicated volunteers built the first house in Owen Sound in 1988, taking out personal loans to fund the cost over 35 years. Over 78 houses have been built throughout Grey and Bruce and Habitat for Humanity has helped 91 families including 141 Adults and 220 Children. Due to the housing crisis, a lot of people aren't able to afford homes, so Habitat for Humanity helps people to keep a roof over their head. Homes are being built in Hanover all the way up Tobermory and everywhere in between. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps people own a house even if they can't afford one. It was founded in 1976 in Americus, Georgia by Millard and Linda Fuller. The ongoing involvement of former United States President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalyn has brought widespread awareness the organization. Habitat now works in every province and territory in Canada and in more than 70 countries around the world.
