My Home

My home is a safe place. I feel good at home. When I have a rough day at school, I can come home to love and kindness. Some people don’t have this love and kindness at home. I am always safe and accepted at home. I can be myself. Lots of children cannot be themselves because at their school, they had to forget who they were. They couldn’t come home to their loving and kind families. They had to stay at their schools where they had to leave their language and culture behind. They had to forget about their traditions and passions. We are lucky to have schools now that let us come home, and if we need help or are hurt, we have our teachers and principals that are safe to talk to. At home, I’m allowed to do what I need. Home means my parents smiling at me when I get home. I can be accepted when I tie my dreams tight with the beautiful deerskin strings that I am thankful for. I love my home.
