What Home Means to Me

A home is much more than things, it’s the one place in the world you get to shape and fill with your own stories. I think everyone should have a home. I believe that everyone needs shelter, but what’s more, their own shelter. But once you get a house, how do you make it more than rooms and walls? Buying furniture may fill up the room, but you can never buy the feelings that came from your home. You should have a home where you feel loved, chosen and most importantly, safe. I believe that no matter what you have, you should always feel safe. Everyone needs a safe place to stay, but what's more, their own safe place. Each and every person needs a home, no one wants to not have a place to stay. Second, many people have houses, but you can’t just have a house, you need your house to be safe. Finally, you should have a place where you can act like yourself. If you're really busy or had a long day you would want some place where you can just relax and know you are safe. Safety is something every person should feel. And that is why your house should not only be yours, but also your safe place. If you own a house it’s just the building but to make it into a home you need more than that. First of all, a house is where you live, a home is the warmth that greets you when you see the people you love. That feeling is home. If everything you have is brand new, everything is the same colour you really don’t have much.Your home is the stories and laughter past on, the chair from a family trip, a pillow from a birthday. These pieces carry memories, and those memories are what make a place feel like home. Above all I believe that a real home holds every emotion, the sad ones that keep the good ones coming, the happy ones that glow, the angry ones that fade, the calm ones that settle and stay there coming back for us to enjoy that moment even more. I truly believe that home isn’t just a structure inside, the walls are painted with memories. And those memories are meant for us to enjoy. Making a building into a home is harder than you think. The rooms and walls that make your house aren’t what makes it home. Home is all the meals shared, the inside jokes, the quiet mornings, the bad days, the love that grows in each and every corner of your house. That love that keeps on growing. Meanwhile you cannot buy a home, you can buy a house, but the home is the memories you and your family make everyday. A home is your happy place. When you get home the hard parts of the day disappear the moment you step inside. It’s where you can relax, recharge, and be yourself. That’s why a home can never be bought, only built, moment by moment, day by day, with the feelings that fill it. I believe everyone deserves that kind of place, the home where they feel safe, loved, and truly seen. No two homes look the same, because no two lives are the same. Everyone, no matter who they are, deserves a home.
