Meaning of Home

Home is a warm hug that makes me feel safe and happy. I share my beautiful home with my brother, my mom, my dad, and my dog. It’s a large house on a slight hill, with a rounded orange door, red bricks, and a driveway my dad works tirelessly to shovel when it snows. In the winter, my home is a cozy place to escape the bitter winds. It’s a place to celebrate Christmas, with relatives filling our living room, bringing with them their gifts for others. When it’s cold, I bake muffins and cookies to warm the bellies of those I care most about. In the spring, the outside yard is full of budding tulips. My family gathers in the dining room, wearing party hats I made years ago, to sing “Happy Birthday” to me. The warmth of the candles makes my home feel like a cozy embrace, and I wish the moment could last forever. But it doesn’t, and soon the summer comes. I don’t stay sad; who can with the weather being bright and sunny? In the summer, the freezer is filled with cans of frozen lemonade and the yellow kitchen is filled with sunshine. The glass vase with marbles refracts rainbow light onto the wall, leaving a magical effect on the whole room. In the fall, the trees start losing their leaves, and school starts again. Autumn is a wet, cool time, the sun making fewer appearances. I go on vacation, and have to leave my home. But I never truly, because my home is not just a building, it’s a hug. Home follows me wherever I am, and wherever I go. My home is a beautiful mosaic of all the moments and memories that have made me who I am today.
