What Home Feels Like to Me

What is home for you? Is it the comfort of your own bed? Is it a tight squeeze from a loved one? Or all of the above? To me, home is multiple things, buildings, people, and even feelings. Home is my friend’s loud laughs, soft smiles, the way they talk, it's like a light that seems to follow me everywhere, gentle and bright no matter the situation or circumstance. That is why I am so grateful for them. Home is my mother’s hot french onion soup, or home-made chili on the weekend, that I could smell from a mile away. The warmth of the food makes my day a lot better, but the love and thought put behind making it for me, it always never ceases to amaze me. It's like a fresh pile of laundry straight from the dryer, wrapping you up in its sweet and lavender scented embrace. The feelings, the happy, light feelings even if it's snowing, cold, hot, or damp, the feeling never goes away. These feelings are the things that remind me that home is not only a place but home is the feeling in me, no matter where I go or do. That feeling reminds me, at the end of the day I always have a place to sleep, feel comfortable, a place to eat, a place I'm glad to call mine. That's my home. All the things I have written here are true. Now, I'd like for you to think of a place, feeling, or person that makes you feel at home, or just think about what home is to you. Now, imagine not having that place, person or feeling. Habitat for Humanity allows people to think about those things, which is extremely important.
