My Home...

I glanced around the house and noticed freshly picked apples and bananas sitting in a boring black bucket. The couch looked like a brown, deflated balloon, and the loud blender made it hard to think. I walked into the kitchen, took a deep breath, and smelled the warm rice pudding my mom makes. I imagined the sweet taste of chocolaty date cake with caramel drizzled on top. My stomach growled when I thought about crispy fries cooking in the air fryer. These moments are special to me because my family loves homemade meals and desserts, especially the ones my mom makes. Cooking and eating together makes our house feel warm and happy. I went to my room and felt the soft crochet yarn between my fingers. I popped a piece of gum into my mouth, and it sizzled as the minty flavor spread. Crocheting while chewing gum helps me relax, and it reminds me of peaceful moments when I feel calm and safe. If I am quiet enough, I can hear music blasting in the living room. Every day I hear ambulance sirens outside, but they are not as loud as the roaring furnace inside the house. As I leave my room, the creaking door sounds like a sneaky, squeaky mouse. These sounds may seem noisy, but to me, they are comforting because they are part of my everyday life. Home is a shield. It protects me from the worries and stress of the outside world. When I am at home, I feel safe, loved, and accepted. Even when things feel loud or scary outside, my home surrounds me with comfort and helps me feel strong.
