Home

Home. What does this word mean to you? To many, it means a roof over your head, a nice warm place, and a comfortable place to sleep. But home doesn’t have to be that. To some, it means family and friends. There are many people around Canada who might not have a comfortable bed to sleep in or a roof over their head. In fact, one in five kids around Canada don’t have a house. Many go to bed without a single thought of how lucky they are or how others sleep in shelters or on the streets. Another word similar to home is a house. But a house is not what you think it is. A home is a place with family and memories. A house is a place that has windows and doors and rooms. A house could be a home, but only if you actually have family and friends to love. Home can be anywhere. It could be in a house, at an apartment, or on the streets. Family could be just your mom and dad, or it could be your 3 siblings and aunts and uncles. For me, my home is a safe and comfortable place to relax and work. Sometimes my bed is too cold, sometimes my food is too soft, but other kids might not have a bed or 3 meals a day. My home is a place to make memories about family and friends.
