Home isn't Just One Place

Home is memories at Shawnigan lake. I carry these memories close to my heart. Picture this, driving through the sweet country road, seeing horses grazing or cantering around their pen. During the summer, you can hear popcorn popping, splashes coming from the lake, and cards getting shuffled as we get ready for our family card game. When it is dinner time you can smell the boiling water from the pasta being made and the fresh warm bread being brought out of the oven. When you walk outside to the balcony you can always hear laughter around the table, or each person taking their turn telling a story. After dinner we go swimming and as I jump in, I can feel the icy and yet warm embrace. As I hit the water, the water surrounds me as if I am swimming in the open ocean. Home is with my mom and the walks I take with her during the evening. It is one of the most important moments of my day. As we walk up the rough gravel hill, we see the wild turkeys walking about and our neighbour's cabin and their two horses. As we walk back, we can feel the old, rusty, and rough steel railroad track under our feet that has been there forever. Home is also in my Shawnigan lake bed. I read my book until it feels like I am living in the story. I can hear the lake's waves crashing on the rocks and the sound of owls hooting, helping me as I fall into a deep sleep. And when I dream, I dream about Shawnigan lake and the moments I spend with the people I love. Shawnigan lake is a special place, and I will always think of it as my real home. Home is at the lake, where I feel calm. I think of this place every day and the memories that I make with the people I really care about.
