Home is More Than Walls

A home is not just walls that surround you; It’s a place where you feel safe. A place where you thrive. A place where you feel warm. A place like, home. Home is the sweet aroma of my mother’s baking. The sounds of my father sleeping soundly. The feeling of my brother tickling my feet. The warmth of the hugs only my family gives me. Home is where people understand how I feel, When I’m happy, joyful, mad or sad. They feel how I feel, And they try to help me. Home is where I feel calm. Where I can sleep soundly, And dream big dreams. Where I can read with no interruptions. Home isn’t just a building with a roof, with lights on the ceiling. With a kitchen to cook, And a TV for entertainment if you’re feeling lazy. With boxes of toys to play with, Or Nintendo switches to game on. Or phones to text or call your friends, Or playing games that brainwash you. Sports or classes after school. Home isn’t any of that! Home means a little bit more. Home is where you feel special inside, Where you get the best hugs you can’t get anywhere else. Like the kisses you get before going to bed. And those don’t come from a game or a store, Those come from your family, Nowhere else. Those come from the heart, That’s what makes them special.
