The Place I Was Raised

The moment I was born, I knew the family I had was right for me and just as perfect. My home is filled with love and laughter. Even if my home is small, in my heart it has a big place and will never be replaced. I feel idyllic and safe. I love my home. It feels like no other. It has food from back home in Somalia, and it makes me remember my grandma and cousins. I was only four months old when I came to Canada, but I had my family, and they went through everything with me. Every night, my dad would go to work as a taxi driver to pick up people to help keep our home and buy my sister, mom, and me food. When it was Ramadan, I remember I would eat samosas that my mom would make for Iftar, and she would also make her mango and strawberry smoothie. We would laugh while eating with each other. I would wake up every morning to hear my mom sing. It was so peaceful. I would wake up to a peaceful place smelling eggs for breakfast. My sister would be on the phone with her friends playing Roblox, yelling. But that is what a home means to me. Thank you, Habitat for Humanity. Let’s make this world a better place.
