The Meaning of Home
Home is like the feeling of a warm hug, from someone I love. Like my brother, parents, and my best friends.
Home is the great aroma of my mum's cooking when I walk in the door. Like chili, BBQ ribs, and banana muffins.
Home is the joy that my dog, Fife, brings every time he stares at me. He has the cutest ear, it’s so wonky that it lays on top of his head. He always sleeps in the most majestic way.
Home is somewhere I can go when I’m overwhelmed and tired. Sometimes I need to rest or get away from people, and home allows me to do that perfectly.
Home is cuddling up in a blanket next to a warm fire with a bowl of popcorn. Tasting the butter in my mouth, while the burning wood seeps up my nostrils.
Home is staying up late with my friends talking about what tricks we’ll do next time we go skiing at Martock. It’s waking up and jumping in the icy water of Birch Cove with my brother and seeing who can stay in the water longer.
Home is waking up early to see if it’s a snow day, then getting furious at the snow plow driver! Then going through the deep snow to see my friends. It’s also starting snowball fights randomly, then sledding away.
Home is where my friends and family laugh at my dog because of his funky ear. It is also where we make jokes about each other and then laugh it off. Home is crying from laughing for no reason.
Home is all the memories that come flowing back when I look at every single picture. Home is when I look at something meaningful and feel my heart thump.
This is home to me.
