The Meaning of Home

Home is more than four walls. It's my family, it’s laughter and joy, it's people coming together, it’s the food in the kitchen that smells so divine, it’s jokes and secrets shared. Home is where Nigerian dishes are made, where languages are learnt, where I play and dance, move and maybe crash. Home is my open space where the best memories were made, the place I grew up, the place I want to stay. When school was not the best, when those bullies got to me, home is the place where I got to spill how I felt about this and that. Home is the place where nations came together: Holland, Nigeria, Mexico, India, Ghana, Japan, Jamaica, Korea, Cuba and the Philippines. All the places I’ve seen In people I meet. Home is where I cry (happy or sad), I vent and kick, scream and shout. Home is where I can freely say “I don’t know” , a place where I am recognized, loved and known. Where I drop my insecurities and fly above up in the clouds where I am care free of what those mean people say to me, above the hurt and pain of loved ones gone and lost but never forgotten by us. Home is where my family meets every Christmas with cousins, aunties and uncles with additions each time they come. Home is more than four walls, it’s me. My safe place where I dream about going near and far,a place to be free. Home is more than wood and stone, it's me, the place that I hold tight, like that stuffie you never grew out of, like that blanket you can't sleep without it by your side . Home is much more than four walls. It really is me.
