The True Meaning of Home

A home and family aren’t just people within bricks, A home is a place where your imperfections fix. Without a home, your bad habits bleed, With it, you are guaranteed to succeed. Humans and squirrels are extremely alike, Where small small victories start to feel childlike. Watching the squirrels making homes at the start of a new season, To protect their kids and give them something to believe in. When storms and rain come squirrels roam and build new homes, While their kids rest in dreys eating honeycombs. My family and I explore, Through the memories we all adore. During the holidays we celebrate, In many party games, we participate. Squirrels play games when they have nuts to eat, They jump and jump as high as an athlete. The smell of my mom’s food, Makes the home feel like none other. I feel welcomed through hugs and kisses, This happens because I listen and do the dishes. When I do chores, it makes me feel like a superhero, Taking care of ourselves, making life easier, and being the hero. Squirrels come together as a family to support each other, A scurry huddles together one after another. When we face highs or lows, we are always there to support each other, The entire family, our mom, dad, and brother, are always there to help me recover. Since there is no matter to be frightened, When I sleep, I will no longer need the room to be lightened. Home is where you feel welcomed, and fit in, And where you feel good in the places you’ve been. I am truly grateful to Habitat for Humanity, For making me realize what truly makes a family. Making a home is not about using bricks and concrete, It’s about the memories with your loved ones you cannot delete.
