Home Is Not Just A Place
Home to me is a calm and quiet place where I feel comfortable and safe. My supportive family makes me feel confident and strong, and helps me believe I can do anything. Their encouragement keeps me happy. Being at home helps stay focused.
My house is full of kindness, laughter, and joy. I love my bedroom because it makes me feel cozy and at home. It is not just a building, it is a place filled with love and support.
When I walk into my home, I smell delicious food and feel the positive energy around me. After a long day at school, I can relax and forget my worries. We share meals, laugh, and sometimes argue, but we always make up. Home is where I am loved and can truly be myself.
My family is Guyanese my culture is an important part of my home. Our traditions come from a mixture of Caribbean diversity such as African, indo guyanese, portuguese, chinese and amerindian cultures.
Music and dance are a big part of our culture, such as chutney, calypso, soca, and reggae. Food is also very important to us, including dishes like cook-up rice, roti and curry, fried plantain, pholourie, and sweet treats like pine tart and salara.
We celebrate many special festivals together. During Mashramani, we dance, eat, and enjoy the parade. At Diwali, we pray and light diyas. During Phagwah, we throw coloured powder and water on one another. At Christmas, we make pepperpot and visit family members' houses. On Emancipation Day, we remember the end of slavery under British colonialism.
Through all these celebrations, my family and I make memories, enjoy each other’s company, and grow closer together. This is what makes my home truly special to me.
